(strain of 50 springtails)

Tiny little creatures, very easy to raise, that are the basis of the diet of our fish and fry in nature. Your fish will peck at them on the surface, at their own pace, just like in real wild life!

Springtails are certainly the most numerous animals on earth. From the equator to the far north, they are at the base of absolutely all terrestrial ecosystems. Some even live on water!

Related to insects, they comprise thousands of species. They are generally tiny and live in litter or soil, in all decomposing matter, which explains their numerous presence in compost heaps or forest soil.
"They intervene just after the primary decomposition by microorganisms and are the key element in the transformation of organic matter into humus all around the globe. There simply would be no life on Earth without them!"
Most species enjoy high humidity, and even live on the banks of water bodies, or even on the surface of the water. They hop around and can sometimes form "swarming patches" in the spring in certain ponds.
"Except for fish living in captivity in aquariums, not a single freshwater fish worthy of the name is unaware of the taste of springtail!"
The explosion of the population of springtails as soon as the nice days arrive is a boon for fry and small fish. It can be said that, in nature, springtails and daphnia represent up to 90% of the diet of fry and small fish at certain times.
A guppy fry is capable, from birth, of swallowing newborn springtails that are barely visible to the naked eye!
"It is therefore the main terrestrial prey that enters the normal diet of every freshwater fish in nature."
Breeding springtails is not difficult: you will place the strain you receive in a one or two-liter box (an ice cream container is sufficient) with a perforated lid, previously filled with a small handful of very wet potting soil. A pinch of Special Aquazolla Food for springtails, or even a few fish flakes from time to time, will be enough to maintain your colony, which will multiply on its own.
For the harvest, you will simply sprinkle a few springtails directly from the breeding box onto the surface!
The species we offer is small, prolific, and white in color, easily visible on the potting soil and on the surface of the water.
You will receive about 50 springtails to start your breeding.
