Egeria najas is a little-known relative of elodea (Egeria densa), but it is even hardier and more vigorous. It grows at an impressive rate, absorbing nitrates and phosphates and thereby greatly limiting algae growth by depriving them of nutrients. It also has a specific action against cyanobacteria thanks to its natural antibiotic molecules with antibacterial effects.

Yes, it adapts perfectly to plain sand since the substrate is only used to anchor it. It gets its nutrients exclusively from the water.
Does it flower?
Yes, its flowers are very similar to those of elodea: right at the surface, with a few crumpled ivory-white petals resembling tissue paper!
Can it live with goldfish?
Yes, even the hungriest herbivorous fish cannot get through its hardy leaves! Goldfish prefer duckweed.
Is it suitable for outdoor winter conditions?
Yes, it withstands the cold but stops growing during the cold season. It starts growing again in spring, a little later than elodea.
