(strain of 8 floating fronds)

Very pretty little floating water fern on the surface of the water.
Each plant measures only a few centimeters long and has about ten rounded fronds along a very thin rhizome!

Salvinia, when it thrives, has a very rapid growth. It can double in area in just a few days under ideal conditions.

The small rounded fronds (about 1 cm) grouped around a very fine floating rhizome are most beautiful, with their color varying from brown to aquamarine, passing through bright green, in a gradient on the same plant!

The rhizome is extremely fragile and the plant thus constantly fractures. It will certainly do so even in its shipping bag. This is perfectly normal, as it is its practically exclusive mode of reproduction. Each fragment becomes a whole plant again, and so on...

Their roots are only a few millimeters long and therefore do not clutter the swimming space of the fish. On the other hand, they provide a perfect refuge for the fry, which also find a multitude of infusoria to eat among them.

The unique appearance and texture of its leaves are due to hydrophobic hairs that cover the surface and make them completely waterproof.

Salvinia can also, with its hairy leaves, serve as a good reservoir if you raise some springtails. These small prey will thus be able to survive and move around dry, with the fish eating the individuals that fall into the water throughout the day.

Associating it with Azolla often results in beautiful, velvety-looking plant mats.

As with all floating plants, make sure that they do not cover the entire surface so that light can penetrate your aquarium, pond, or tub.

The conditions she prefers are warm and bright. She literally explodes in the summer outdoors. A well-lit aquarium also provides her with these conditions. Remember to bring in some leaves in winter to avoid losing your stock: Salvinia does not like frost!
