An extraordinary and original surface plant: pretty, nourishing, purifying... and ideal for mulching in the garden! From the pond to the aquarium, it thrives everywhere and is easy to manage when it flourishes.

Azolla is an extraordinary plant.

This small floating fern is actually the symbiosis between an alga (cyanobacterium) and a plant, each providing the other with what it cannot produce.
For example, azolla is capable of directly using nitrogen from the air! It can thus thrive in the poorest waters.
But it can also thrive in very dirty waters. It is even naturally endowed with a very special gene that gives it the exceptional ability to bind heavy metals, and thus purify the most contaminated waters. Its thousands of small roots that extend beneath the surface are a refuge for all aquatic microfauna. This is how, when this plant is disturbed, one can see a cloud of countless little creatures fleeing! The tiny ostracods, gammarids, daphnia, and water lice find their food in its roots: ciliates, bacteria, etc. Obviously, the fry of your fish will do the same, and this natural pantry will be their best guarantee of survival in the first days.
In short, azolla purifies the water, shelters and nourishes the micro-fauna of aquariums and ponds, but it also withstands winter by surviving in a dormant form to be reborn in spring.
"Depending on the lighting and the season, its color will lean towards green, blue, or a magnificent red!"
Azolla is also the gardener's friend.
"Installed in a pocket pond in the middle of the vegetable garden, it will be the guardian of biodiversity in and out of the water. And, when it becomes invasive, it will be very easy to harvest it by the handfuls to spread it at the foot of your vegetables. It will then form a thick and protective mulch, without the risk of unwanted regrowth."
Last point: poultry love it and your hens, quails, and ducks will follow you noisily to the water reservoir so that you can offer them their handful of azolla, rich in fiber and especially in nitrogen.
You will receive about ten floating seedlings to start your cultivation.

"Azolla loses its pseudo-roots (black filaments) during transport or each time you change its environment. Don't worry, it's completely normal: it will make new ones suited to the new environment."

This plant, which can spread in our regions and in our waterways, I ask you not to throw it into nature.
