Sagittaria subulata (dwarf variety)

Perfectly suited for natural (or low-tech) aquaristics, this low-maintenance plant does not exceed 10 cm in height. Easily multiplying, it is ideal for the foreground.

The Sagittaria subulata is a dwarf sagittaria that generally measures 5 to 10 cm in height, making it ideally suited for the front part of the aquarium, or to represent an "aquatic prairie."

"Like all Sagittarians (and the Vallisneria), its leaves are in the shape of 'ribbons' all coming from the heart of the plant."

Its tender green enhances the impression of clarity in the spaces it occupies, contrasting with the dark green, reddish, or brownish hues of larger plants.

"Uncomplicated plant, it doesn't have any real requirements regarding water quality (hardness or pH) and grows very well in simple sand. It fully benefits from the effect of the malaysian Trumpet Snail, which it greatly appreciates for their action on the soil."

Like all dwarf plants, it is sensitive to lighting, and the deeper the water, the more intensity will be needed. Indeed, it often grows in nature in shallow waters, where light is less absorbed by the height of the water.
It thus forms a beautiful "water lawn" in just a few months if the conditions are to its liking.

"After a few weeks of adaptation, and if she is happy, she will start to send out runners in all directions, each runner giving birth to new plants, and so on. Like strawberries! She will willingly colonize the surface of the soil and you will just have to limit her growth by pulling out the seedlings that are growing where you do not want them, to replant them elsewhere."

These plants serve as an effective hiding place for shy little fish or fry, for shrimp or for water lice that enjoy sheltering in this small dense jungle close to the ground...

In terms of temperature, it requires a minimum of about 14°C, with a maximum of 26 to 28°C. Therefore, it can only spend the winter outdoors in warm regions and is absolutely not invasive at our latitudes.

Another strain, a little taller, is also available.
