Planting and maintenance tips

Installation: take a look at our illustrated diagram (in the photos alongside) to easily locate the different planting zones of your water feature.

Submerged zone (oxygenating): you can plant the 6 stems of hornwort in the substrate at the bottom of the pond, or simply let them live freely between the waters. They will quickly develop to purify the water.

Surface (floating): place the 16 fronds of salvinia directly on the surface. Over time, they will create a reassuring shaded cover for wildlife.

Bank and edge (ground cover and emergent): install the 6 stems of lysimaque on the moist banks so it can creep toward the water, and the 2 plants of water milfoil on the shallow edges.

Hardiness and overwintering: hornwort, lysimaque, and water milfoil are very hardy, they withstand winter frost and will vigorously regrow the following year. However, be careful with salvinia which freezes: it must be brought indoors in winter or replaced in the warmer season.
⭐ Aquazolla tip: to encourage quick acclimation, avoid placing your plants (especially salvinia) under the strong turbulence of a waterfall or water jet. They prefer calm areas to fully thrive.

FAQ - Essential pond pack
Do these plants require a specific substrate?
No, these varieties are very adaptable. Hornwort and salvinia absorb nutrients directly from the water. For lysimaque and water milfoil, the natural soil of your bank or simple pond sand or gravel will work very well.
Is this pack worth it for a very small pond?
Yes, absolutely. In a small volume, water balance is even more unstable. This coherent base helps you avoid costly mistakes, algae invasions, and buying unsuitable plants that would end up rotting. It guarantees a peaceful start.
What should I do with my plants in winter?
Rest assured, most of this pack (hornwort, lysimaque, and water milfoil) is very hardy and will survive harsh winters, regrowing in spring. Only salvinia fears frost: you can take some fronds to keep in a jar indoors during winter, or simply replace it the following year.
Will these plants attract animals?
