What do our fish eat in the wild?
Mostly daphnia, which are at the top of the freshwater plankton food chain. These small crustaceans, also known as "water fleas", form the basis of the diet of most fish in the wild.
Adult daphnia are a treat for medium-sized fish (between 3 and 10 cm), ranging from guppies to young goldfish. Bettas love hunting them, and they contain everything a fish needs to live and grow.
This makes daphnia the ideal natural food for aquariums or ponds.
Raising daphnia is less difficult than you might think, provided you can dedicate a container of at least 10 litres to them (a simple bucket, for example).
But we often have to learn by trial and error, not knowing how to obtain a culture, feed them, handle them, sort them, or harvest them.
