Ideal prey for adult fish, these aquatic earthworms live at the bottom of the aquarium where they put on a fascinating show.
These very pretty little aquatic worms are close relatives of our earthworms or garden worms.
They are much thinner and live entirely in the water.
Adult fish love these choice prey that are too large for fry and for small species of fish.
The Blackworm do not like pollution and are even excellent bio-indicators.
Their sexual reproduction is rare, and they generally multiply by division. Indeed, a single fragment of worm is capable of reconstituting a whole individual, with all the missing organs. These worms therefore split, either spontaneously or due to contact with gravel, and each portion becomes a new worm!
A good subject for reflection for human beings: when the individual separates into two, or even more, what becomes of the individual itself? A vast subject for meditation!
Your Blackworm, as soon as they are installed in your home, will immediately settle into the substrate or mud at the bottom. They will bury their heads to feed on the organic matter from bacteria and will wiggle their tails in the free water.
If the environment seems healthy to them and resources allow, they will sometimes multiply to the point of creating numerous clans in certain areas of the seabed.
