Collection: Create a low-tech aquarium

For several years now, Low-tech aquaristics has gained many followers, attracted by its simplicity and philosophy.
This is an aquarist practice that minimizes the use of technology, in contrast to promoting natural balances.
Low-tech was born from the phenomenon of poubellariums, which appeared in 2004 with an internet forum that has since become extremely popular.




Some experienced aquarists discovered at that time that their fish, taken out to the garden in simple containers filled with water (often just plastic trash bins), were in better shape in the autumn than their counterparts that remained in the aquarium. This, of course, went against all the precepts taught at that time in aquarist literature.
We then became aware of the uselessness of the filter in biological balance and the harmful role of the stress that fish endure due to technical equipment: noise, artificial homogenization of temperatures, harsh lighting, etc.
In short, replacing technology with a real natural balance makes fish more resilient and requires infinitely less maintenance.




This type of aquarium "that runs by itself" nevertheless requires more observation... which is ultimately not unpleasant for its owner!
The absence of a filter and suction pump allows for the safe introduction of all kinds of creatures that enhance biodiversity, feed the fish, enrich the beneficial bacterial flora, but also complete the natural and soothing spectacle that the aquarium represents.

Some even take the step into the fishless aquarium, entirely dedicated to plants and a thriving biodiversity. The absence of fish allows for a very rich and fascinating micro-fauna to survive and develop.
From the fascinating water louse to the hopping daphnia, not to mention the ostracodes straight out of prehistory, we spend hours observing the silent and soothing ballet of aquatic life.
The hypnotic dance of Blackworm, the comical poses of the bladder snail, the strange glossiphonia and the discretion of the smallest snail one can find, all invite to meditation.
